Ingredients

  • Mozzarella sticks: 10 sticks about 200–250g total, preferably low-fat or high-protein
  • Eggs: 2 large eggs or 3 egg whites for lower fat option
  • Breadcrumbs: ½ cup 60g, whole wheat or panko for extra crunch
  • Parmesan cheese grated: ¼ cup (25g)
Spices:
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp salt
  • Optional: ½ tsp Italian seasoning for extra flavor

Method

  1. Place mozzarella sticks in the freezer for at least one hour to ensure they stay firm and hold their shape during cooking.
  2. In a bowl, whisk the eggs until smooth and well combined to create a coating base.
  3. In another bowl, mix breadcrumbs, grated parmesan cheese, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper until evenly distributed.
  4. Remove the frozen mozzarella sticks and dip each one into the egg mixture, ensuring it is fully coated.
  5. Transfer the coated stick into the breadcrumb mixture and press gently so the coating sticks evenly on all sides.
  6. Repeat the process by dipping again into the egg and breadcrumb mixture to create a thicker, crispier outer layer.
  7. Place the coated sticks on a tray and let them rest briefly before cooking to help the coating set.
  8. Preheat the air fryer or oven and arrange the sticks in a single layer without overcrowding.
  9. Cook until golden brown and crispy, checking carefully to prevent cheese from leaking out.
  10. Remove from heat, allow them to cool slightly, and serve warm with marinara sauce and creamy dip.
